Akshat Shah is a multi-lingual Speech Language Therapist, based in Whangarei, Northland, Aotearoa. He has worked in generalist and specialist roles within the profession and is a strong advocate for communication access. He works primarily in the paediatric population, with strong interests in cleft palate and aquired brain injury.
He is a Dad to two girls and two border collies. In his spare time, he foolishly tries to catch up on sleep.
The idea for getting coreboards installed in public playgrounds in Whangarei came about through a discussion with his SLT colleague Denise Poole. They agreed that community access to coreboards would make for a much needed feature to planned inclusive playgrounds in the region.
Akshat and Denise worked closely with Whangarei District Council Staff to convert their idea into a reality and get core boards installed at three new inclusive playgrounds in the city.
Join Akshat, as he shares the blue-print he and Denise created through the process of their successful project, so you can use this information in your local context, to work towards getting core boards installed in your local public areas and support communication access for all.
If you can't make the live workshop, the recording will be uploaded into my Speech Teacher Membership. You can access this workshop, all previous guest expert workshops and one guest expert workshop on a communication topic per month for an annual fee of $200NZD.
