Professor Tricia McCabe - Rapid Syllable Transition Treatment

  • Closed
  • Zoom
  • $10

Tricia’s research, teaching, and clinical practice are united by a single goal: to transform the lives of children and adults with moderate to severe speech impairments. Her work directly addresses conditions that significantly limit communication, educational participation, employment opportunities, and quality of life: areas where advances in treatment can have lifelong impact.

Her research program targets urgent and under‑served clinical needs, with a particular focus on:

  • Innovative, evidence‑based treatments for Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) (also known as dyspraxia), a complex and challenging condition and children with speech disorders and Cerebral Palsy

  • Speech disorders affecting the production of polysyllabic words and longer linguistic units,

  • Comparisons of phonological and articulation‑based therapies, providing clinicians with clear evidence about which approaches are most effective and efficient

  • The use of ultrasound biofeedback in speech pathology, a cutting‑edge technology that allows clients and clinicians to see speech movements in real time, accelerating learning and improving outcomes

A central pillar of Tricia’s work is the application of speech motor learning principles to the development of new and more effective treatments, particularly for CAS and other severe speech disorders. By bridging theory, clinical innovation, and real‑world practice, her research helps ensure that emerging therapies are both scientifically robust and clinically meaningful.

Tricia is deeply committed to Evidence‑Based Practice (EBP) and to re‑thinking how speech pathology services are delivered.

We would love for you to join us on zoom, for this live workshop with Professor McCabe, where she'll talk us through Rapid Syllable Transition Treatment (ReST) - a scientifically robust, evidence-based intervention she developed for children who have a main diagnosis of Childhood Apraxia of Speech.

ReST treatment has been developed through a series of research studies which have shown that, when delivered as it was designed, it can improve the speech accuracy of children and young people with CAS and some children with dysarthria.

This workshop is aimed at Speech Language Therapists/Pathologists, but all interested parties are welcome. Bring your questions, as there will be time for Q&A at the end.

If you are a parent of a child with Childhood Apraxia of Speech or Dysarthria, please discuss with your Speech Language Therapist/Pathologist if this intervention could be appropriate for your child.

*The $10 admin fee is to help cover the costs of hosting and as such is non-refundable. Registering and paying the admin fee, gives you attendance to the live workshop.
